Purpose: Cognitive decline is a common features of aging. Social activity is important role to activate the brain function of aging adults. The purpose of this study was to know the characteristics of social acitivity and the relation with verbal fluency ability. Methods: 140 healthy adults without language, speech, and other communication problems were enrolled in this study. Participants were in 30 ages to 60 ages. They answered the questionnaire asking for the vairous social activities(20 items). And they also participated in the verbal fluency test consisted with semantic and phonemic fluency test. The results were shown with numbers to respond for each activities, and Spearman correlation r was used for the relation social activities and verbal fluency performance. Results: Among 20 questionnaire items, 5, 6, 7, 8, and. 15 social activities were higher than other items in frequency. Those types were ‘watching TV, reading books, exercising etc). 12 among 20 social activities showed the very weak to weak correlation with verbal fluency tasks. And 3 social activities have a weak relation with 6 tasks for verbal fluency test(semantic and phonemic fluency); go to restaurants, participating in professional meetings, special lecture. Correlation ‘Reading books’ and ‘/ᄀ/’-phonemic fluency was more higher than other fluency tasks(r=-.366, p<0.01). Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that Social Activity and cognitive function may be related. However, for the more confident results, the relationship between social acitivity and various domains of cognition should be studied in different aging populations.
