The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of body composition and functional fitness on prevalence of hypertension according to gender and age of elderly based on the survey of national physical fitness 2017. The data were obtained from 901 people (450 males and 451 females) who were over 65 or 65 years old according to the survey of national physical fitness 2017. All measured data except for those aged 90 years or older were in the young old(under 65-74 years, n=296), older old(under 75-84 years n=208), oldest old (over 85 years, n=197). The body mass index was higher in the young old than in the oldest old, while the height and body mass of the elderly men were higher than those in the oldest old in the young old and older old. In the case of women, the height was higher in the young old and older old than in the oldest old, and the systolic blood pressure was higher in the older old and oldest old than in the young old. On the other hand, elderly men showed a sharp decrease in cardiopulmonary endurance, flexibility, and muscle strength as age increased after age older old. Cardiovascular endurance, low body strength, flexibility, and balance of the elderly women decreased rapidly with age. However, the grip power was unchanged. Analysis of body composition and functional fitness which affect hypertension the result showed that the prevalence of hypertension was 0.85 times higher in elderly women in their older old when flexibility was high. The prevalence of hypertension was 0.90 times higher when the flexibility of the elderly in the oldest old was high. Therefore, the results of this study could be used as basic data for the composition of blood pressure control exercise program considering the characteristics of the gender and ages of the elderly.
