This study aimed to investigate the research trends related to people with physical disabilities as a preliminary investigation for the development of daily-use equipment that can improve people with disabilities’ living convenience and physical abilities. A total of 409 papers were selected to be analyzed, and the main results are as follows: First, the rapid increase in research since 2000 can be attributed to the expansion of interest in people with physical disabilities with the addition of physical disability subdivisions to the Disabled Person Welfare Act . Secondly, most thesis topics focus on the study of physical disability from 2005 to 2009, and most studies on physical and mental disability focus on brain lesion disorders, as they were added as a new disability type after the revision of the Disabled Person Welfare Act in the 2000s. Third, research related to daily life or social activities that directly improve the quality of life of people with physical disabilities is dominant. Fourth, there is a real need to understand people with disabilities’ living environments to develop supplies and products that improve said environments so they can be economically self-reliant. Finally, the study found literature on physical disability in Korea has been drastically decreasing since 2000–2004. It is considered necessary to study literature covering a certain period of time to grasp academic research trends, as well as to examine the literature from various perspectives.
