Now you and I are in a divorce revolution, and it appears no couple is exempt. Every marriage is in danger. The divorce rate shows no signs of slowing down, and marriage as we've known it fast become obsolete. As a result of that, we are experiencing an epidemic of unnecessary divorces in which the children are the major losers. And the breakdown of the family is at the root of nearly every other social problem and pathology. The purpose of this thesis is to restore churches and society to an understanding and practice of marriage as covenant by applying timeless principle of God's Word. In order to do that, I will do a comparative study on the two concepts, contract and covenant. The challenge I would like to give is for all every couple to examine their definition of marriage with the understanding that it must be more than a contract or even a commitment. It must be a covenant. A covenant is all about relationship, and it stays in effect until death. Without a covenant with your spouse, your marriage is without hope and also without God. By willingly taking covenant's "walk of death," you become one with God, and by his Spirit at work within you, you become one with your mate. As I believe, nothing is more transforming than knowing what it means to be in a covenant relationship with God and with your mate. The understanding of marriage as a covenant has the potential to revolutionize your relationship with your spouse. Therefore, We must reaffirm marriage as a viable institution and reestablish the traditional, biblical concept of marriage as a sacred and permanent covenant.
