The purpose of this study was to examine the effects on the aggressive behaviors of children withdevelopmental delay via functional-based art play. The subjects of the study were two 5-year-old boys andone 5-year-old girl who showed aggressive behaviors in the child care center during the day. Interventionin art activities was conducted in order to resolve the interpersonal aggressive behaviors and the aggressivebehaviors with the substitutive objects. To verify the effectiveness of this study, we used a multiple probebaseline design across subjects in a single subject research. The effectiveness was analyzed by measuring thefrequencies of aggressive behavior in each child during the baseline, intervention, and maintenance phasesof the study. The study found that these art activities have effects on reducing their interpersonalaggressive behaviors as well as their aggressive behaviors with substitutive objects. The study concludes artplay intervention that is based on functional assessment for children with developmental delay is aneducational alternative for child care centers, kindergartens, and elementary schools, to help reduce theiraggressive behaviors.
