The term ‘intercultural citizenship’refers to individual citizen’s virtues and dispositions to multi-culture society and immigrants as well as multicultural institution and policy at the level of state. Not a few previous researches have dealt with the question of whether the Korea-citizen accept the change for multicultural society with a positive and open-minded attitude or not. Based on those previous researches’result, this research tries to develop a new research question about what type of intercultural citizenship the Koreancitizens have. According to the attitude survey of Chungnam-citizens and its result of analysis, some characteristics of intercultural citizenship can be summarized. First, Chungnam-citizens highly agree with state’s multicultural institution and policy. Second, they give recognition to foreigners as a close friendship and nationhood. However, among foreigners and immigrants first priority gives to American and overseas Chinese, which means that a kind of discriminatory preference works in the acceptance of cultural diversity. Prompted by the second characteristic, intercultural citizenship of Chungnam-citizens would be classified as co-existence type with global interculturalism. As for promoting of local interculturalism,which focuses on learning neighboring language and culture, civil education should be directed toward learning on how to communicate and exchange with other cultures.
