Each country and period has its own unique culture. Culture is a term indicating the process of habits and lifestyles that are acquired, shared and delivered by society members to actualized a certain goal away from the natural state, and the physical and mental profits accomplished in the process. Also, it includes everything from food, clothing and shelter to language, customs, religions, knowledge, arts and systems, and it is not too much to say that such culture has been established via human body, expressed through human body in various forms. Also, as there is an observation that aesthetics were created as a discourse about human body, our human body historically has been a medium of aesthetic symbol, and the Goth also represents their own culture with diverse features expressed on human body. The Goth, cultural outsiders originating from Gothic culture, tends to admire death, horror and darkness by expressing through their bodies in the form of makeup or clothes. The representative style of the Goth is black clothes, skulls and accessories, and powdering their faces white, like Marilyn Manson. This thesis will examine the meanings and messages of the Goth comprehended from makeup and how the image expression influences them, and examine how effectively Goth culture can be presented through makeup.
