The purpose of this study was to develop science-gifted education program based on the creative problem solving (CPS) in genetics area and investigate its effects. The program consists of three parts including lecture, experiment and homework. Two groups of the 7th grade students, the gifted and the general group, participated in this project and homepage was used for the effective management during homework. We tested the creative behavior character in science and also students' creative problem solving ability, and then received students' evaluation in the end of the program. Our study showed the followings. First, the developed program enhanced the creative problem solving ability for both the gifted and the general group students. The gifted showed increase in flexibility, but no change in fluency. The general group showed increase in both fluency and flexibility. Scientific elaboration was improved in both student groups. However, unlike the gifted, (as) the general group students did not well understand whole sequences of the experiments in terms of the quality, this program seems to be proper for the gifted students. Second, creative behavior character test showed no increase in both the gifted and the general group, indicating that the motivation factor is not improved within the short period of 3 months. In conclusion, our study showed that CPS-based genetic education program enhanced students' creative problem solving ability so that this program will be able to be used to increase the scientific creativity of the gifted middle school students in the genetics area.
