Comparison of exercise training effects according to changes of body fat or cardiopulmonary function between pre and post-menopausal middle-aged women. Exercise Science, 24(2): 000-000. PURPOSE: This study analyzed the differences of exercise training effects on body composition, physical fitness, vascular inflammatory markers, and metabolic syndrome-related risk factors according to responses of body fat or cardiopulmonary function after exercise training between pre and post menopausal women. METHODS: Subjects were consisted of 49 middle-aged women as 29 pre-menopausal women and 20 post-menopausal women. Exercise training program included to 30 mins with walking and resistance training, 3 days per week, and performed 6 months. Groups of subjects were divided into pre or post-menopausal group, and Change or No-change of body fat (BF), Change or No-change of cardiopulmonary function (CF) after exercise training. RESULTS: In the Change group of BF, pre-menopausal group showed a significant decrease of blood lipid profiles, but post-menopausal group showed no significant decrease. In the Change of CF, pre-menopausal group and post-menopausal group showed a significant change of body composition and physical fitness. Pre-menopausal group showed a significant change of blood concentration of glucose or leptin. Blood lipid profiles showed no significant changes after exercise training in pre and post-menopausal group. CONCLUSIONS: In these results, the decrease of body fat affect to metabolic syndrome-related risk factors after exercise training in pre-menopausal group, however the decrease of body fat or the increase of cardiopulmonary function independently affect to metabolic syndrome-related risk factors. Therefore we should try to suggest the specific or concrete exercise training program for health promotion in meddle-aged women.
