The conventional electrophoresis method of urinary protein frrst needs specimen concentration procedure because of the sensitivity of gel or cellulose acetate medium. Its sensitivity is about 26 mg/dl. This method utilizes the electric charge difference for the separtion of proteins respectively. Therefore, protein fractions are developed on the gel or cellulose acetate medium according to their charge difference not the molecular weight difference. So, interpretation and application 'of this result for the diagnosis of patient’s status are generally difficult because identification of protein fractions is not clear and generally able to guess what it is. SDS-Gel electrophoresis method is very unique one for the urinary protein analysis. It is no need of urine concentration procedure because it is more sensitive than conventional method. Its sensitivity is about 1.5 mg/dl. Another feature of this methcod is to use the molecular weight difference, seiving effect and acid violet staining for the separation of proteins. Therefore, protein fractions are developed on the gel according to molecular weight difference of the proteins. So interpretation and application of this result for the diagnosis of patient’s status are very easy and clear. We can interprete if the bands (whichare located far from the sample application points) are appeared above albumin fraction on the gel, they originated from tubular damage, and if the bands (which is located near the sample application points) are appeared under albumin fraction on the gel, they originated from glomerular damage. It is very simple to interprete the results on the gel. If the bands are appeared aboveand under albumin fraction at the same time, this means both glomerular and tubular of nephron have been damage. This method was compared with Standard nephelometric assay of urinary proteins with 82 patients sample and 21 normal subjects and always got the same results with nephelometry.
