This study was designed to describe and compare the job satisfaction of hospital nurses between Japan and Korea. This study used a cross-sectional survey design involving 276 Japanese nurses and 475 Korean nurses. The instruments developed by Stamps and colleagues were translated into Japanese and Korean by a translation center and used to measure the job satisfaction of hospital nurses. The overall job satisfaction was high in both countries and did not differ significantly between them. A major similarity in both groups was the significant difference that age, marital status, and current opinion of their job had on job satisfaction. The function of nurses might differ across cultures, but the job satisfaction of Japanese and Korean nurses appears to show more commonalities than differences. This implies that there is high potential for active cooperation and interaction between nurses in Japan and Korea.
