The National Curriculum 2009 was announced in December, 2009, which provides the basic framework for revising the English National Curriculum 2007 in the near future. The National Curriculum 2009 announces some key features such as grades cluster, subjects cluster, and intensive course-taking. The curriculum also enables individual school to change alloted time per subjects cluster if each school needs to. The purpose of this study is to look for the directions for the forthcoming amendment of the English National Curriculum 2007 according to the National Curriculum 2009. In order to achieve the purpose, the weaknesses of the English National Curriculum 2007 are discussed, including controversial issues of selecting basic vocabulary, limiting vocabulary size, and enlisting achievement standards. Then, the major features of the National Curriculum 2009, such as grades clusters and change of alloted time per subjects cluster are presented by focusing on their possibilities and limitations. Finally, the directions of revising the English National Curriculum 2009 are suggested.
