This article deals with the meanings of Korean Speech Communication in view of teaching Korean as a second language. Education for improving verbal communication of Korean language as the mother tongue is provided in the fields of speaking-listening and speech communication and aims to educate the ways of communication, thinking and attitude. On the other hand, teaching Korean as a second language is provided in the fields of speaking, listening, Korean conversation, and integration of those four skills and it aims to improve the verbal communication itself. Analysis of the Korean education textbooks shows that only few books have employed the characteristics of Korean speech communication for improving the communicative competence. Task-based Korean textbooks integrating the four skills mentioned above do not provide an education on the methods of Korean verbal communication. The characteristics of Korean Speech Communication is helpful for the education of speaking-listening, culture, and grammar. It could be useful for Korean learners to understand the methods of verbal communication. The improvement of Korean verbal communication, which are sought for in Korean speaking-listening education, is feasible only by understanding the methods of verbal communication. Therefore, multidisciplinary research is warranted on the Korean speech communication, teaching Korean as a second language and speech communication education.
