After Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, Chosun’s literary men frequently visited Japan as an envoy and showed much interested in Mt. Fuji. It was a chance for them to confirm the informations about Mt. Fuji. They took the same route as an envoy and they wonder at the beauty of Mt. Fuji at kakegawa. This kind of situation was repeated for a while, so they tried to understand Japan through Mt. Fuji. In the center of understanding Japan, there was cognition of Mt. Fuji. Mt. Fuji had two cognitive aspect for Chosun’s literary men; one was mysterious aspect and the other was white snow on top of it. As time went by, their cognitive aspect of Mt. Fuji was changed a lot. They had a blind faith on mysterious aspect of Mt. Fuji but later they doubt it. On the contrary, they distrust the white snow on top of Mt. Fuji but later they believed firmly about it. These two aspect was in contention. The mysterious aspect of Mt. Fuji was formed mainly by its regional character. Busang was difficult to access so it was easily regarded as mysterious land. This kind of blind faith on Mt. Fuji was prevalent for a long time but it was denied for a short time when Makbu politically took advantage of envoy. Thanks to the frequent dispatch of envoy, their blind faith on mysterious aspect of Mt. Fuji changed into doubt. In addition, prevailing practical science made them doubt the mysterious aspect of Mt. Fuji. The white snow on top of Mt. Fuji was reminded of mysterious land but it was difficult to confirm the snow so they approve it one way and doubt it at the same time. These basis preserved from 4th to 11th dispatch of envoy but it converted by the time when Shin yoo-han dispatched as the 9th envoy. People regarded it as a common sense that the snow piled up on top of the mountain because of the low temperature. It was the first time for Chosun’s literary men to assure the snow on top of Mt. Fuji. Following him, the number of assuring literary men was increased. 10th and 11th dispatch of envoy proved the snow on top of Mt. Fuji but dubiousness was still remained. Because they thought Mt. Fuji was located in South so snow would melt away in hot weather. They didn’t know that the snow on top of high mountain would not melt away even though they were in hot weather. Through Mt. Fuji, this study can inferred that Chosun’s literary men’s cognitive attitude about Japan was matured from these two facts; their blind faith on mysterious aspect of Mt. Fuji changed into doubt however their distrust of white snow on top of Mt. Fuji changed into firm belief.
