This case study was a trial to identify whether the 4 behavioral modes consisting the Fun-Evolving Model (Ko, 2002) is empirically valid as a criteria for market segmentation of a regional tourism market. The Fun-Evolving Model, as a theoretical frame to explain the evolutionary changing process of leisure behavioral styles, has an assumption that fun-seeking behavior in a leisure activity would be changed from ‘seeing’ mode to ‘having’, ‘doing’, and finally ‘being’ one, sequentially or step by step according to experiential accumulation to the leisure activity. This study was to apply the 4 fun-seeking behavioral modes for segmenting a tourist market into subgroups. Data were collected from 652 residents of Daegu and Gyeongbuk provinces, and analyzed into descriptive statistic, frequency analysis, multiple response analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and chai square analysis using SPSS 23.0 statistics program. By applying the 4 behavioral modes of the Fun- Evolving Model, the data has shown the results that the sample should be into all 5 subgroups(i.e., low involvement, seeing, having, doing, and being group) significantly and differentially characterized on demographical description, itinerary types, and using behaviors to travel services, and so on. The results inform the fact which the Fun-evolving Model is valid for explanation and understanding the tourists, and supply a significant anchoring point to prepare the marketing strategy for leisure and tourism.
