Tolerance Education for Open SocietyKim, Hee BongMokpo National UniversityIn this paper, I argue the education of tolerance in the perspective of citizenshipeducation. It aims at resolving the intolerance and differentiation problems in Korean society.The characteristics of current society such as information society, globalization, and post-modernism pursue pluralistic society. Tolerance is a basic virtue in the plural civil society. Butintolerant and differentiate problems of foreign workers, handicapped persons, and women arestill found in Korean society. And group ostracizing, violence and teachers intolerant trends areseriously found in Korean schools. These suggest to do the education of tolerance.The conception of tolerance consists of objection and acceptance. So that, the centraltask of tolerance education builds pupils into disposition that they firstly object to someones
