injami is a new sweetpotato variety with purple flesh developed from the Mokpo Experiment Station, NationalHonam Agricultural Experiment Station (NHAES), Rural Development Administration (RDA) in 2001. This variety was selectedfrom the cros between amakawamurasaki and hinmi in 1994. Seedling and line selections were practiced from 1995 to1996, and preliminary and advanced yield trials were carried out from 1997 to 1998. The regional yield trials were conducted atfive locations from 1999 to 2001. injamihas small sized, long triangle leaf shape, green vine mixed with purple color, greenpetiole, round elliptic root shape, dark purple root skin, and purple flesh color. The average yield of storage root over 50 g was2.2 ton/ha from optimum seasonal cultivation in the regional yield trials, which was 23% higher than that of Zami, a check vari-ety of purple flesh. Average number of storage root over 50 g per plant was 3.2, and the average weight of storage root was 134 g.The Color value of injamiwas 6.9 (E10%, 1 cm) higher than 5.8 of ami. This variety can be planted in all sweetpotato pro-duction regions except cool alpine areas, because unadaptable growth under low temperature (15~20oC).
