This study was to investigate the characteristice of Picasso`s artistic style found in his works and his effect on the artistic world. For this purpose, it attempled to analyze the stage setting of four ballet works such as 'Parade', 'The Three-cornered Hat', 'Pulcinella' and 'Le Train Bleu' whose stage setting and costume in were designed for Diaghilev's Ballet Russe by Picasso that showed an interest in the whole field of art such as sculpture, ceramics, woodcut, stage setting for 70 years or so and made a great contribution in expanding the domain of painting as the pioneer of cubism . As a result, it found out the following characteristics of his artistic works: First, it was found that he pursued the cubistic disposition to pursue the three dimensional spatial sense on the two-dimensional plane. Second, he showed the realistic tendency while exhibiting the cubistic and classic tendency. Third, he excluded the unnecessary detailed decoration, introduced simplicity and brought the visual effect by bringing the uniformity of colors to the stage. Accordingly, he did not portray the stage setting as the background painting but pursued the visual effect by expressing cubistic element and stage setting, custume, makeup and the like uniformly. The cubism he created made a change to existing style and aroused the creation of a new style and furthermore provide the basis for the expressionistic approach in Germany and ltaly. And it made the first step towards absolute abstraction in the Netherlands and Russia possible and induced a new approach to realism in the United States, generated the school of painting such as rayonnisme, Qrphism, futurism, purism and the like that were influenced by cubism and had a tremendous effect in forming the 20th-century art.
