The purpose of this study is to promote a mutual understanding of dance education between South and North Korea by conducting a comparative analysis of South Korea’s 2015 revised national curriculum and North Korea’s 2013 revised national curriculum. For this purpose, this study analyzes South and North Korean dance textbooks, focusing on learning objectives, learning systems, learning topics, and learning stages. As a result, it was found that although the two countries taught dance as different subjects, Physical Education and Music and Dance, there are similarities in the use of movement, the expression of musical elements, group activities, performances and appreciation. However, they valued different types of expression, emphasized different aspects of dance, and taught different genres of dance for different learning objectives. This research will be used as an overview of South and North Korean dance education and has value as an academic attempt to understand differences and to narrow the gap between two countries.
