Boredom is an interesting word that frequently appears not only in the 19th century, but also as a keyword in 20th-century Soviet Russian literature. Western literature dealing with boredom began to appear in earnest from the mid to late 19th century. But in Russian literature, ‘boredom’ has already been a very important literary motif since the early 19th century, and the phenomenon has been greatly beaten in the early 19th century and the Soviet era of the 20th century.
Therefore, this paper attempts to look at boredom in Russian literature from various aspect, focusing on the early Soviet works after the 19th and 1917 revolutions. In Russia, why did boredom appear earlier in the literature, what is the inherent meaning of boredom in Russian literature, and, more importantly, why boredom has long been an important motive in literature in Russia? So, this paper examines the boredom of Russian literature in 19th century aristocratic boredom, surplus boredom, and 20th century Soviet boredom.
