David, in the periods of Saul-David-Solomon of ancient Israel, could possibly achieve the social unity in the nation through his efforts to establish equity and universalism: and it was the result similar to a kind of missional expansion. To establish universalism, equity, legal code and principal, and reasonable world-view have to be prerequisite.
Monarchy was introduced to ancient Israel by Saul, and imperialism was developed by David-Solomon. In the early monarchic era, there were various kinds of irrational social barriers in the society, and also there were efforts to overcome them. Thus new ideas were also introduced.
In the time of Saul-David, Israel was under constant confrontation against Philistine. Actually King Saul was always anxious because of the threats by Philistine. The efforts by Saul to enlarge the military power, i.e. developing the institutions of soldiers, security and weapons, were not successful. Saul was not into fundamental social change and reformation.
On the other hand, David transformed the blood, region and ethnic related ideas into a universal one. He, with the transformation, rather than paying attention to the blood, region and ethnic related ideas of belongingness and solidarity, granted opportunity and right to the socially marginalized people and the foreigners to enlarge the military system, and took it as a new principal of unification.
In the David-Solomon era, the empire was not consisted of homogeneous ethnic and regional people. So making a unity of the people with the variety of background was the empires crucial social task. To make it, the David-Solomon regime established justice in society, the order in the empire based on causationism, i.e. act-outcome law. Especially, Proverbs set out a principal of new economic justice which follows act-outcome law.
This universalism could embrace all the socially marginalized people as the members of one nation. And this could be a new form of model for the Korean churches to apply to their missional vision.
