This study focused on single-subject studies conducted in Korea and abroad of the effectiveness of art assisted interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders, through a meta-analysis. Regarding research papers on art assisted interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders published in Korea and abroad from 1998 to 2018, and according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 18 research papers were selected. An analysis framework was set up by referring to previous studies, and a satisfactory agreement level between raters was 95.1%. Also, ANOVA was used to test the differences, according to the study environment, conditions, and characteristics of subjects. The result showed a significant average effect size, an overall of 78.8% of art assisted interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders. The results described above and the subsequent discussions of this study has significance in that it is the first study in Korea that has comprehensively and systematically analyzed the results of studies of the effectiveness of art assisted interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders for 20 years, through meta-analysis. The results suggest a practical guideline for preparing evidence- based effectiveness criteria for future performance research as well as a fundamental resource to be applied in the field.
