The purpose of this study is to observe and examine the acquisition process of conjunctive particles “kedo/ga” on the JFL’s cross-sectional utterance corpus. The results of this study are summarized as follows.
(1) JFL learners with inflectional and/or isolated native languages use a conjunction to represent the inverse of “kedo.”
(2) JFL learners with inflectional and isolated native languages showed a difference in the use of “ga” and “kedo”. Subjects of inflectional native languages were likely to distinguish between the grammatical forms by connecting “ga” and “kedo” with the middle form. In contrast, isolated native language users used “kedo” as an axis, but their use of formal units was expanded by frequent use.
(3) There is a difference in the formal unit frequently combined with “ga and kedo” among JFL students with inflectional and isolated native languages. Learners from each language type frequently used combinations with “desu/masu type” in the use of “ga and kedo,” and the use of expressions connected to “N type” was prominent. However, this use was not observed among the learners from inflectional native languages, but the tendency was strongly evident among students using isolated langauges as their mother tongue.
(4) The analysis of the format in front of “Ndesu” demonstrates that certain units are not visible in “Ndesuga”, but certain units are used in “Ndesukedo”.
