Along with a continuous increase of the number of single-person households, the government is required to actively respond to promote policies customized in the era of single-person households. It is necessary to analyze which administrative demand is emerging due to an increase of the number of single-person households and which requirements are standing out according to gender and age. In order for government policies for single-person households to be effective, it is necessary to promote the policies in a comprehensive and customized manner. In this respect, this study analyzes characteristics of single-person households in terms of changes in the number of single-person households, demographic features (gender, age, and marital status) and living environment features (residence, safety, economy, health, and social participation) and then analyzes how the government’s customized support policies should be implemented. Ulsan is an industrial city, where change variation of single-person households due to shortage of jobs and economic depression is large, the portion of single male households is much higher than other local cities, and the rate of women participating in economic activity exhibits the lowest value. Therefore, one may readily conclude that more customized support policies are needed for the government of Ulsan metropolitan city than other local governments. Based on these grounds, Ulsan metropolitan city is chosen as the subject of study.
