The purpose of this study was to longitudinally verify the reciprocal effect of both social relationships and community consciousness of adolescent students. The researchers used the 2nd year (2014, elementary school 6th grade), 3rd year (2015, middle school 1st grade), and 5th year (2017, middle school 3rd grade) data of the Korea Education Longitudinal Study 2013 (KELS 2013). The final subjects of this study were 6,481 adolescents, and the data was analyzed using auto-regressive cross-lagged modeling. The conclusions of the study are as follows:
First, the social relationships of adolescent students have been steadily influenced by past community consciousness and social relationships over time. Second, the community consciousness of adolescent students has been steadily influenced by past social relationships and community consciousness over time. Finally, the structural connection between social relationships and community consciousness was verified. As a result of comparing the mutual links between social relationships and community consciousness, the influence of social relationships on community consciousness was comparatively higher. These research results therefore provide meaningful implications for the cultivation of adolescent students" social relationships and community consciousness.
