The writings of historical history related to the Joseon Dynasty were written only as a part of the syntactic, narratives, or joint writings. Recently, from the viewpoint of social history, Seung-won Yoo’s “Social History of the Age of the Sadaebu” and Hiroshi Miyajima’s “Comparative Syntax of Korea, China and Japan” have been published. These books are meaningful in that they look at the history of the Joseon Dynasty in a new way with the subject of a yangban comparable to Sadaebu.
In this book, it was explained that the Sadaebu had functioned as a knowledge bureaucrat through the past as a being who did not possess the privileges granted by the state and aimed for the publicity of society. These explanations broaden the understanding of the Joseon Dynasty compared to the conventional recognition of the Sadaebu and Yangban as the guardians of the vested interests.
However, it can be seen differently about what was understood as the reinforcement of the conservatism of the squadron since the middle of Joseon Dynasty. In other words, the conditions of existence of the Sadaebu did not change, and the realization of the social publicity that the patriarchal aimed for was limited when considering the aspects that existed in various institutional reforms in the court and the role of the dynasty in the village society in the late Joseon Dynasty.
