Purpose
Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is one of the most common genetic kidney disorders. Half of patients develop end-stage renal disease (ESRD) until their sixties. Kidney transplantation (KT) is the best treatment option for ADPKD-related ESRD; however, KT in ADPKD have been reported to have more thromboembolic and metabolic complications, and increased risk of hypertension and cardiovascular events without increased risk for infection in the Western countries. Here, we report outcomes of KT in ADPKD patients in an Asian country.
Method
We retrospectively reviewed ADPKD patients who got KT from 1995 to 2020 in Seoul National University Hospital and analyzed their baseline characteristics, operative findings, and surgical outcomes. Kidney volume was measured from computed tomogram (CT) and ht-TKV was calculated in 113 patients.
Result
A total of 119 ADPKD patients received KT. Mean age at diagnosis and at KT were 39±11.2 and 55.1±9.7 years, respectively. Hemodialysis (64.7%) was the most common renal replacement therapy before transplantation and mean waiting time for KT was 21.4±28.6 months.
