Purpose : This study analyzed the average fundamental frequency (Fo), pitch range (frequency range, number of semitones), and speech rate using news speech where message delivery is important with a view to determining the relationship between message delivery and paralanguage. Methods : After selecting a total of 20 news broadcasts conducted by 10 TV news announcers, Fo and pitch range were measured using Praat. Male and female announcer’s pitch range, frequency range and the number of semitones were measured according to the standard frequency by octave and scale. The speech rate was measured by the number of syllables per minute (SPM). Results : The results of the study were as follows: First, an analysis of the average Fo of announcer’s news speech showed that the average Fo of males was 158.8 ㎐ (±11.9), and the average Fo of females was 250.7 ㎐ (±17.3). Second, The male frequency range was 158.8 ㎐ (±31.1) and the number of semitones was 20.9 (±2.8). Meanwhile, the female’s frequency range was 253.8 ㎐ (±39.8), with 20.6 (±3.1) semitones in their news speech. Third, there was a significant difference in frequence range between males and females, while there were no significant differences in the number of semitones. Fourth, the average speech rate of males was 356.9 SPM (±6.5) and the average speech rate of females was 353.1 SPM (±4.5). Conclusions : There was no significant difference in the speech rate of the male and female announcers. The characteristics of TV announcer’s news speech showed that the announcer’s pitch was higher than a normal person’s, the range was wider, but the speech rate was similar between announcers and non-announcers.
목적 : 본 연구는 발화에서의 메시지 전달과 준언어적 요소와의 관련성을 알아보기 위해 메시지 전달이 중요한 뉴스발화를 이용하여 평균기본주파수, 음도 범위(주파수범위, 반음개수), 그리고 말 속도를 분석하였다. 방법 : 이 연구는 TV 뉴스 아나운서 남녀 각각 10명이 진행한 총 20개의 뉴스를 선정 후, Praat를 이용하여 기본주파수, 주파수범위를 측정하였고, 남녀 아나운서의 음역에 대해서는 옥타브 및 음계별 표준주파수에 의거하여 주파수 범위와 반음 개수를 측정하였다. 말속도는 분당 말한 음절수(SPM)로 측정하였다. 결과 : TV 뉴스 아나운서의 음도, 음도 범위, 말속도의 특성을 알아 본 결과는 다음과 같았다. 첫째, 아나운서의 뉴스발화시 평균기본주파수를 분석한 결과, 남자 아나운서의 뉴스발화시 평균기본주파수는 158.8 ㎐ (±11.9) 이었고, 여자 아나운서의 뉴스발화시 평균기본주파수는 250.7 ㎐ (±17.3)로 나타났다. 둘째, 남녀 아나운서의 뉴스발화시 주파수 범위는 남자는 158.8 ㎐ (±31.1), 반음의 개수는 20.9 (±2.8)개 이었고, 여자는 253.8 ㎐ (±39.8), 반음의 개수는 20.6 (±3.1)개였다. 남녀 아나운서 간에 발화시 주파수범위가 유의한 차이가 있는가를 살펴본 결과, 주파수범위에서는 유의한 차이가 나타난 반면, 반음 개수에서는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 셋째, 남녀아나운서의 평균 말속도를 분석한 결과, 남자 아나운서의 평균 말속도는 356.9 SPM (±6.5)이었고, 여자 아나운서의 평균 말속도는 353.1 SPM (±4.5)이었다. 남녀 아나운서의 말속도간에 유의한 차이는 없었다. 결론 : TV 아나운서의 뉴스발화 특성은 일반인보다 아나운서의 음도가 더 높았고, 음역이 더 넓었으며, 일반인과 아나운서의 말속도는 비슷한 수준으로 나타났다.
