The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of the role of middle managers in daycare centers and to analyze the effects of the role of middle managers in each area on operational management efficiency. To that end, a survey was conducted on 410 child care teachers working at daycare centers in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon. Data on the role of middle managers of daycare centers and the efficiency of operation and management of daycare centers were collected and hierarchical multi-return analysis was conducted. As a result, childcare teachers were positively aware of the role of middle managers and the efficiency of operation and management of daycare centers. Among the roles of middle managers of daycare centers, the role of childcare process, autonomous scholarship, personnel management, and financial and administrative management roles affect the efficiency of operation and management of daycare centers. However, the role of community-related areas does not have a significant impact on the efficiency of operation and management of daycare centers. These results mean that middle managers with child care expertise are needed to enhance the efficiency of operation and management of daycare centers. It also suggests the need to establish institutional grounds for the qualifications, roles and duties of middle-care centers’ middle-level managers and to establish a system that can continuously support and manage the enhancement of the expertise of middle-level managers.
