Since the social and political attention to the education of art has been increased in Korea, more people have interest to experience the dance in school recognizing the value and necessity on the dance education. Particularly in the primary and secondary education, dance is the physical, social, mental, cultural education enabling to attain core competency simultaneously and collectively required in the revised national curriculum of education in 2015. Although the social requirement and educational need for dance have been growing continuously, dance education in Korea still fragmentarily takes a place within the physical education recognized as a part of physical expression. Furthermore, although the dance has to be educated considering its inherent characteristics of artistic, aesthetic, cultural aspects, it is partially exists in the region of physical education in national curriculum of education, not in the subject of art. The purpose of this study is to suggest the direction of improvement for the primary and secondary dance education in Korea considering the case of development of dance education in New Zealand. Current status of primary and secondary dance education in the school of New Zealand was investigated including the educational system and compared and analyzed with the dance education in Korea.
