Nowadays, college education is not simply about receiving knowledge in a specific field and moving on to the next step. Liberal arts education, which has been considered as a preparation process, or a subordinate program, for one’s major must undergo change and be provided as an independent curriculum with its own position and significance. In this regard, subjects that require physical movement and dance have recently become popular within the liberal arts education realm, indeed emerging as the most strategic field that would be able to cultivate creative educated people. Therefore, it is now being recognized as an alternative solution for the restructuring problems and the need for a vitalization of university dance department that has resulted from a reduced school age population. In particular, universities consisting of women only will have to make the most of its characteristics and expand the application of dance curriculums within liberal arts education in order to extend the field and to enhance the recognition of dance curriculums as subjects in their own right. Among the seven women universities in the country, research has been conducted on the current operational conditions of dance-related liberal arts curriculums at five women’s universities of dance department, and a reinforcement method for the curriculums has been established based on the results as follows: First, professors need to show their enthusiasm for the establishment of liberal education curriculums and demonstrate a will to be responsible for the actual classes. Second, a variety of participatory art curriculums need to be established to provide students with opportunities for education through art and to thus offer them a wide choice of courses. Third, subject names should be original and unique based on its characteristics to attract the students’ attention. Fourth, the multiple instructors and professors should participate in teaching, and the creative teaching method should introduce the instruction by social leaders and watching performances and exhibits. The class should not be limited to the campus and should be opened and diversified. The commitment to actively use the research center within the school or the human and physical resources of local community is also needed. For that, the financial assistance of university administration will be needed. Fifth, intensive learning experiences should be offered through smallscale class. Lastly, the right teaching method and evaluation method should be applied to the curriculums to stop students from being reluctant about choosing dance subjects and to help them to feel open towards them. A rapid decrease of the school age population has led universities to promote the views on liberal education in dance department. The evaluation and perspectives of school faculties, professors, and students towards dance schools within the university should be managed by the dance school professors. Since the research results applied to the liberal arts curriculum would be directly connected to establishing the position of dance schools, and since its impact is predicted to be greater than anyone’s expectation, it is considered that the time has come for dance professors to change their views about liberal arts education and to actively participate in developing the curriculum.
