The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of mobile phone dependency on the change rate of adolescent aggression over time and examine the gender difference in the moderating effect that reduces the negative impact of mobile phone dependency on aggression. The data includes 2,351 adolescents from the 2nd grade in middle schools and 1st grade in high schools. The panel data from the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey 2010 (KCYPS) was drawn and was analyzed using Linear Mixed Effects Regression (LMER) procedures. Primary findings are as follows: (1) adolescents with higher level of mobile phone dependency showed higher level of aggression at the 2nd grade of middle school. (2) the aggression level of adolescents with higher level of mobile dependency tended to consistently decrease over time compared with lower level of mobile dependency. (3) both male and female adolescents’ positive perception on their health status negatively affected the level of aggression. (4) the link between mobile phone dependency and aggression was significantly moderated by male adolescents’ positive perception on their health status, but not by that of female adolescents. (5) parents’ nurturing parenting style negatively affected the aggression level of female adolescents, but did not affect that of male adolescents. (6) the link between mobile phone dependency and aggression was significantly moderated by female adolescents’ positive perception on parents’ nurturing parenting style, but not by that of male adolescents.
