This paper is to tackle the growing sense of distance between science and humanities through a comparative discussion of theory of relativity and relativism. Against the dichotomy of scientific absolutism and humanistic relativism, I argue that science and humanities are similarly double-phased when considered in terms of a viewpoint. Though unique in the attempt to regularize and objectify, science advances only through an unusual relativistic view of the fixed realities. Humanities, more or less relativistic basically, nonetheless abstains from anarchistic malady only through a balanced view of both attractions and dangers of relativism and absolutism. Thus the conclusion reached is that the distance between the two knowledges is real, which, however, is not too far to overcome as far as a specific understanding of each knowledge precedes naive pessimism or even optimism.
