Human rights education is linked to civic education in the sense that it promotes equality, capacity building, and participation, which is the foundation of a democratic society, and serves as the foundation for society in which the human rights of all people are respected, protected, and realized. Through human rights education, people must be able to learn about human rights, recognize human rights issues, acquire the capabilities to advocate human rights, and put human rights values into practice based on the attitudes in which equality and dignity are respected. In order to meet the goals of human rights education, textbooks based on human rights education should be composed of contents that provide practical opportunities to actively participate in solving human rights problems by acquiring knowledge and function of human rights as well as internalizing the right values and attitudes toward human rights. In this study, I analyzed the critical hermeneutical approach of human rights education, the components of human rights education of Lister, and the human rights education model of Tibbitts. An analysis of human rights education materials developed from an international perspective provides learners with a direct learning experience associated with human rights to gain a concrete perception of human rights situations. It also functions as a structure to allow the sharing of experiences with others and participation in group problem solving through community participation discussion processes. In addition, through the generalization process of applying a student’s own experience to the theory, it was discovered that the analysis was constituted to establish concrete action strategies to reflect the value of human rights and to urge action. Future human rights education materials should be developed from the perspective of an integrated human rights education, reflecting the conditions and realities of our society. Integrated human rights education will contribute to the formation of society in which the value of human rights is respected by providing individual opportunities to practice human rights and strengthen human rights abilities.
