Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factors associated with the experience of bullying victimization among middle school students in the Jeju area. Methods : A total of 1567 middle school students (age range : 13-14 years) were recruited from middle schools in the Jeju area. Based on their experience of bullying victimization, they were divided 2 groups i.e., the victim group and non-victim group. Various characteristics, including depression (Kovacs’ Children’s Depression Inventory), school and family factors, and health related conditions were compared between the two groups. Results : A total of 129 (8.2%) middle school students reported having experience of bullying victimization. The associated factors of bullying victimization were female gender (OR=1.885, p=0.002), depression (OR=2.151, p＜0.001), self-reported poor health status (OR=1.911, p=0.021), and perceived poor relationship with parents (OR=1.703, p=0.039). Conclusion : The results of this study provide a basis for developing strategies and specified intervention to prevent school bullying among middle school students.
