Since the compartment design is designed based on the designer’s experience and the company’s existing data, it takes a lot of time and efforts for inexperienced people to be an expert. In addition, if the stability criteria is not satisfied, it is necessary to go back to the previous stage and modify the compartment, which also takes a lot of time and efforts. To improve these problems, this study proposed compartment design system using optimization techniques. The system developed in this study is composed of the following four modules. First, it is a module capable of modeling a solid-based three-dimensional space. By using add and reduction operations, complex compartments of ships can be defined. Second, there is a module that perform the basic calculation according to loading conditions. Third, there is an optimization module for automatically generating a compartment of a ship. Fourth, it is a result visualization and analysis module. Finally, we formulated optimization problem of Suezmax cargo hold considering several rules and regulations. It was applied to generate the cargo hold compartment of Suezmax tanker, automatically.
