This article is to analyze the control over the Kings in Tang Xuanzong Period. Xuanzong caused a royal coup under the status of King, and the common task given to those who ascended the throne was to crack down on the King to prevent another coup. Xuanzong abolished his brothers’ military posts and granted them the provincial governors or honorary posts. The Residences of Five Kings of Wuzetian, which Xuanzong took to himself and his brothers during the reign of King Linzi, were a kind of house arrest, and the fact that Xuanzong used it as it was after ascending the throne must have utilized the functions of monitoring and control. However, Xuanzong naturally set the boundaries of control by paving the limited space and observable space with brotherly affection, allowing the emperor himself to come and go and let his brothers enjoy the freedom to their heart’s content. The method of having brothers live together was also applied to the sons and grandsons, making the Residences of Ten Kings and Houses of Hundreds Grandsons. It is thought that the dark shadow of monitoring and control was cast behind the emperor"s brotherly affection and parental affection, which was added to the description of the exaggerated a prosperous ages of Xuanzong. As a double-edged sword that served as a fence for the imperial family and as a challenger to the imperial authority, the kings only emerged as contedners in early Tang Dynasty and became the subject of control.
