The purpose of this study was to develop and examine the effects of character cultivation program in nursing students. The study used a non-equivalent control group and pretest=posttest design. The study participants were 115 nursing students (64 in the experimental group and 51 in the control group) from two universities in K city. The character cultivation program was developed based on ADDIE (analysis, design, development, and implementation) model. With the experimental group, the character cultivation program composed of 13 sessions, each lasting 50-60 minutes and given once a week. These sessions were composed of self-understanding, self-exploration, self-expression, cultivating general honesty, cultivating honesty in my opinion, cultivating honesty as nurse, cultivating general responsibility, cultivating responsibility in my opinion, and cultivating responsibility as nurse. The data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 22.0 program using descriptive statistics, chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test, and independent t-est. There were significant increase character (t=2.93, =.004) in two groups. But there were no significant communication skill (t=1.31, =.194) and self-leadership (t=1.50, =.136) between two groups. Therefore, the character cultivate program may be used for improving the character among nursing students. Also, it is necessary to examine the effects of character cultivation program in the long terms.
