The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of success experiences using similar tasks on learning in the elderly 's gate ball task. For this purpose, elderly people aged 65 or older participated in the experiment. They did not provide any information related to the purpose of this study. They were randomly assigned: 10 to the success groups, 10 to the failure groups, and 10 to the control groups. The task of this study was to use the gate ball base striking task and similar task. The dependent variable was the performance score. Data analysis in the acquisition phase was conducted under the design of 3 (group) × 6 (block) factor which repeated measures on the last factor. The results were analyzed and the following conclusions were obtained. First, the success group showed the best performance in the acquisition phase. Second, in the immediately retention test, the success group performed better than the control group. Third, in the delayed retention test, the success group was superior to the failure group and the control group. In conclusion, this study shows that success and failure experiences using similar tasks can have different effects on elderly’s gate ball performance and learning.
