The purpose of this study is to examine and understand the nature and meaning of college life for middle-aged women who started studying late. Participants in the study were 11 women over the age of 40 attending nursing departments at three universities located in K and J provinces. Data collection was conducted for about two months from December 17, 2022, and the contents of the interview were analyzed using Colaizzi"s phenomenological method. As a result of the study, the college life experiences of middle-aged women were clustered in 4 top themes with 13 sub-themes. The four themes were "a challenge that began before it was too late," "my responsibility for making a choice," "the strong support from one’s family and friends," and "pursuing a life of growth." The findings of the study are meaningful in that they can be used as foundational data to prepare for various social and educational measures for the adaptation of nursing students who started studying late by comprehensively examining their nursing and college life experiences.
