Background: The purpose of this study was to develop and operate a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) simulation-based education program using concept mapping in pre-learning for pediatric nurses to evaluate its effect on pediatric CPR knowledge, performance confidence, and nursing problem-solving ability.
Methods: This study used a pre-post design with 28 nurses from a pediatric ward working at a tertiary general hospital. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Version 25.0, based on frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test.
Results: After completing the CPR simulation, pediatric CPR knowledge (Z=-4.26, p＜.001), performance confidence (Z=-4.39, p＜.001) and nursing problem-solving ability (Z=-3.50, p＜.001) were significantly higher than before the program.
Conclusion: The results of this study verified that the CPR simulation program applying concept mapping was effective in improving the pediatric CPR knowledge, performance confidence, and problem-solving ability of nurses in the pediatric ward.
