The purpose of this study was to develop a sling with a bed sheet for use as a transfer device for transfer assistance and to evaluate the usability of the sling. Three types of slings were manufactured for the study: a sling without head/neck support (RSB), a sling with bow-type head/neck support (RSHW), and a sling with pad-type head/neck support (RSHP). The cover of the seat is labeled with the patient"s position, and the bow, pad, waist belt, and sling loops are removable. The back of the seat has a compartment for storing accessories. Eighteen adults (male: 10, female: 8, age: 68.6 ±7.6 years old, height: 160.6 ± 9.2cm, weight: 59.6 ±10.8 kg) participated in the study, and the usability evaluation consisted of safety, operation and functionality, comfort (satisfaction), and other comments (suggestions/improvements). All slings had a usability rating of 3.5 or higher. There was a significant difference between slings in the mean value of safety, with RSHP having the highest safety (p < 0.05). There were no significant differences between slings in the mean values related to operation and functionality (p > 0.05). In terms of convenience (satisfaction), the RSHP showed higher satisfaction than the RSHW (p < 0.05). From these findings, we can confirm that the developed bed sheet sling is suitable for use. However, we found that the size of the head support and the training on how to use it need to be improved.
