Background
Communication between spouses is an important factor in the quality of marital relationships. However, the middle-aged period often brings about changes in family dynamics, such as adult children’s independence and retirement, leading to increased instability in relationships. In particular, middle-aged individuals in Korea may experience difficulties in communication due to a culture that inhibits emotions. Therefore, this study aims to develop a service using play within the field of positive psychology to enhance communication among middle-aged couples.

Methods
This study developed and proposed a service design for enhancing communication through an online-offline integrated service using the Double Diamond process and user testing results. First, the necessity of developing a communication enhancement service for middle-aged couples was identified through pre-existing research analysis, case studies, and user interviews. Second, by employing the How Might We technique, problem areas and solutions were derived, leading to the establishment of five core values. Third, through the development of service ideas and design concepts, an online-offline integrated play kit was produced and actual middle-aged couples conducted MVP(Minimum Viable Product) test for two weeks. Finally, interviews and statistical verification were conducted for usability testing, leading to the proposal of the final application prototype.

Results
The results of the MVP test showed significant changes in the level of communication and intimacy among couples. Couples not only experienced positive emotions with their spouses while using the play kit, but also perceived it as an opportunity to understand their spouse and their marital relationship in a new light.

Conclusion
Through this study, it was confirmed not only that applying playful techniques to middle-aged population is effective but also that there is a universal, preventative dimension to the approach aimed at enhancing marital communication.

연구배경
부부간 의사소통은 부부 관계 질을 결정하는 중요한 요인 중 하나로, 건강한 부부관계의 핵심 요소이다. 그러나 중년기 부부는 성인 자녀의 독립 및 은퇴 등 변화하는 가족 역동을 겪으며 관계 안정성이 불안해지는 시기이다. 특히, 한국 중년은 유교문화의 영향으로 정서 표현을 억제하는 경향을 띄어 기능적인 의사소통을 하는 것에 어려움을 느낀다. 따라서 본 연구는 긍정심리학의 영역인 놀이적 접근을 통해 중년 부부의 의사소통을 증진할 수 있는 서비스 제안하는 데 목적이 있다.

연구방법
본 연구는 더블 다이아몬드 프로세스를 통해 의사소통 증진 온/오프라인 연계 서비스를 개발하고 사용자 테스트 결과를 통해 최종 서비스 디자인을 제안하였다. 첫째, 선행연구 및 사례분석, 사용자 인터뷰를 실시하여 중년 부부를 대상으로 하는 의사소통 증진 서비스 개발의 필요성을 발견하였다. 둘째, How Might We 기법을 통해 다섯 가지 핵심 가치를 수립하였다. 셋째, 서비스 아이디어 및 디자인 콘셉트 개발을 통해 온/오프라인 연계 놀이키트 MVP(Minimum Viable Product)를 제작하여 실제 중년 부부들이 2주간 사용하게 하였다. 마지막으로 MVP 테스트를 진행하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 수정/보완하여 최종 서비스를 제안하였다.

연구결과
MVP 테스트 결과 부부 의사소통 및 부부 친밀감 수준에서 유의미한 변화가 나타났다. 부부들은 놀이키트를 활용하는 과정에서 배우자와 긍정적 정서를 느꼈을 뿐만 아니라 부부 관계와 배우자를 새롭게 이해하는 계기로 인식하기도 하였다.

결론
본 연구를 통해 중장년층에도 ‘놀이적’ 기법을 적용하는 것이 효과가 있다는 것을 검증하였을 뿐만 아니라 부부관계 의사소통 증진을 목적으로 하는 보편적, 예방적 차원의 접근 효과가 있다는 것을 확인하였다.
