PURPOSE : This study aims to provide reference for promoting the practical implementation of humanities education in medical schools.
METHODS : To achieve the purpose, this study was conducted as follows: Through literature search engines, relevant literature on theories and methodologies related to physical education, medical humanities education, etc., were collected. Domestic and international books and materials were consulted to review and analyze the current research status of this topic both domestically and internationally. Based on this foundation, the breadth and depth of this study were expanded, laying the groundwork for topic selection and thesis writing.
RESULTS : This study discusses the value and methods of developing medical students’ humanistic literacy through physical education courses in medical schools. It analyzes the theoretical basis and practical approaches of physical education courses as philosophical practices of mind-body monism for medical students. Implementation strategies for physical education in nurturing individuals are proposed, which include inspiring students’ understanding of the mind-body relationship through skill learning; and cultivating medical students’ moral and humanistic spirit through exploring the cultural and spiritual values contained in the origins of core skills. Teaching methods for enhancing medical students’ humanistic literacy are shared, which include using technical instruction as a nurturing medium, awakening body perception through technical training to achieve holistic development of the internal and external, and harmony of mind and body; and drawing on the concept of “embodied moral education” to integrate moral education into technical instruction.
CONCLUSIONS : Physical education in medical schools shoulders the mission of medical humanities education. It’s necessary to continuously improve curriculum construction to integrate its educational function with medical practice.
