The purpose of this study was to organize existing information on the change of place names of Seunghak-san in Busan and to clarify the change and origin of Seunghak-san through various place name data. The results are as follows. First, the original name of Seunghak-san[乘鶴山] is Seungak-san[勝岳山]. This is confirmed in Dongnaebuji and Yeojidoseo in the 18th century. For this reason, the origin of Muhak Buddhist monks in the late Goryeo Dynasty was denied. Second, Seungak-san Mountain is marked as 勝岳山 and 勝嶽山, but 嶽 and 岳 are not different names in the same Chinese characters. The 嶽 of Seungak-san Mountain contains the meaning of a sacred mountain where rituals are held in the sky, and the 勝 is interpreted as high and outstanding. For this reason, the etymology of Seungak-san Mountain means a high and outstanding sacred mountain. Third, Third, Seungak-san Mountain was changed to 乘鶴山 in the Japanese Residency-General's official report in 1909. For this reason, it is confirmed that Seunghak-san is a place name of Japanese colonial era. The reason for the change to Seunghak-san is related to the intention of sanctifying the mountains around the Japanese settlement with their ideology and values. Fourth, even during the Japanese occupation, data made by Koreans were marked as Seungak-san, but in 1958, the Central Geographical Name Establishment Committee set Seunghak-san as the standard and has been used so far. For this reason, it is necessary to designate Seungak-san, the original place name of Seunghak-san .
