The purpose of the study is to analyze the community spaces in the residential complexes considering the generation coexistence and to derive the characteristics of the community spaces to promote intergenerational interactions. Four ‘Haengbok’ public rental housing complexes were selected for case studies, and ‘the third place’ theory has been reviewed and rearranged as the framework for the analysis. Rearranged six features of ‘the third place’ are openness, interactivity, playfulness, accessibility, comfort, and diversity, and four community spaces are analyzed based on the features. The results were as follows: 1) In addition to the community space for a specific generation, it is necessary to provide a space for gathering different generations. 2) It is necessary to vitalize connection with local neighborhoods by providing community spaces created and operated voluntarily in residential complexes. 3) When planning an outdoor space, it is required to secure internal and external connectivity by connecting the flow path from the entrance to the outdoor green space.
