This study analyzes the multifaceted impact of election campaigns using YouTube channels on political communication by examining the official YouTube channels of the political parties and elected members of the 22nd National Assembly in South Korea. The study found that out of the 300 elected members of the National Assembly, 250 operated personal YouTube channels, and all eight political parties to which these members belonged maintained official YouTube channels. Notably, the YouTube channels of younger members and those from metropolitan areas had higher average subscriber counts and view counts compared to other age groups and re- gions, indicating varying levels of channel activation. Additionally, videos that were shorter in length, specifically created for YouTube, incorporated video effects, and featured the candidates themselves recorded higher per- formance metrics (view counts, likes, comments). Content-wise, positive videos were produced more frequently than negative ones; however, neg-ative videos garnered higher view counts. Sentiment analysis of the main content's comments revealed that over 90% of the comments were positive or neutral. This suggests that YouTube channels may function as echo chambers, sharing homogeneous opinions and potentially reinforcing polit- ical confirmation bias. To prevent YouTube from fostering populism and to develop it into a platform for healthy debate that enhances political interest and efficacy, multifaceted efforts from individuals, political parties, and the platform itself are necessary.
