The purpose of this study is to verify the influence of predictor variables on the latent group size and classification of key competencies among third-grade middle school students in Gyeonggi Province. The researchers analyzed data from 8,568 third-grade middle school students in Gyeonggi Province collected through the "Gyeonggi School Education Survey" and applied the Latent Profile Analysis (LPA) method. The results of the study are as follows. Firstly, the latent groups of key competencies were classified into three categories. Group 1 was labeled as 'Low Competency', Group 2 as 'Moderate to High Social Autonomy Competency', and Group 3 as 'Moderate Competency'. The composition ratio of the latent groups was highest for 'Moderate Competency'. Secondly, at the individual level, higher levels of reading activities, self-directed learning ability, and school-level relationships such as friendships, teacher-student relationships, student-centered teaching, and school satisfaction increased the likelihood of belonging to the 'Low Competency' < 'Moderate Competency' < 'Moderate to High Social Autonomy Competency' groups. The researcher discussed the necessity of refining the curriculum to cultivate essential competencies among middle school students.
