This study explored how to apply the plant properties of biophilic design to public spaces in senior welfare facilities, considering the depression levels among elderly. To achieve this, we derived various types of biophilic plant attributes through previous studies and literature reviews. Additionally, images of biophilic plant properties applied to public spaces of senior welfare centers were generated using Stable Diffusion, and then the elderly’s preferences for biophilic plant properties were investigated. The analysis revealed a strong preference among the elderly for the “Garden type”. Preferences by gender were higher in men than in women, and the elderly individuals with depression had a higher preference for plant properties than those without depression. Although there was no significant difference in preference for specific plant types based on the type of plant attribute, the independent samples t-test results showed that there were significant differences in preference for specific plant types based on gender and presence or absence of depression. Furthermore, ANOVA results showed significant differences in preference based on depression level, particularly for the “Planter type. Future studies may help develop specific strategies to implement biophilic design considering various spaces and functions of senior welfare centers.
