This writing begins with the argument that the task of giving the shape to his poems is based on his rich memories. If his poems which started with outstanding linguistic sense, have achieved the poetic goal, to find oneself through the time, they were tried to make clear that they themselves were engaged with the life in 30's in one way or another.
It is quite exceptional and problematic that Beck Seok(백석), influenced by the modernism in the 30's, expressed the emotions of loss of the home place with the sophisticated language and folk material. Beck Seok who digested newly the skill of imagism, described remarkably the epic hidden behind the real existence. This is not only just a sketch, but it is like a passage which makes the existence of external things perfect. The process to pursue it is to trace back in memory of the subject and Beck Seok gave the shape specifically to the rich memories of experiences. They, by the most, are the metonymy of the home place, and the persistent way of our life over the long time. Beck Seok, through the language which are extinguished now, expressed the strong nostalgia towards the original forn of life which are missed now. In the poems of Beck Seok, the imaginary space, 'joint body in the childhood', is the example which magnifies the intensity of the nostalgia.
The poems of Beck Seok are an individual's desolate life itself on the ground that it is impossible to represent the complete experienced life. Still, they are valued in the sense that the ample memories conformed in his poems, broadens the filed of human being's indispensably limited speculation.
In Beck Seok's early poems, which show the united sentiment with his home pl~e in the center, the self and the world are not separated and do not contrast. However, when it comes to his later poems, characterized by wandering, these two objects are definitely divided. The poetic speaker's memories extenuate, but it comes to clearly recognize the secluded world with the penetrating point of view. In this process Beck Seok could identify his afflicted self by the reality and his poetic journey paradoxically reflected the violated and oppressed world.
